Sasha Grey : Adult Film Career

Hailing from North Highlands, California, Sasha Grey has diverse Greek, English, Polish, and Irish roots. Sasha took Film and Fine Arts classes at Sacramento City College whilst she also waited tables in a local restaurant. By doing so, Sasha managed to save up over $7,000 which enabled her to move to Los Angeles and pursue a career in the adult industry. Sasha has discussed the origins of her porn star stage name ‘Sasha Grey’ in , revealing that;

“Sasha is the name of one of the singers of the band KMFDM. And Grey is based on Dr. Kinsey’s scale of sexuality. It’s basically saying everybody, man or woman, is all the way straight or all the way gay or somewhere in between. And that’s the gray scale”.

Sasha Grey made her official porn debut in 2006 when she was 18 years old. Sasha’s first ever sex scene was an orgy with Belladonna, Melissa Lauren, Jenna Haze, Gianna Michaels, Sandra Romain, Adrianna Nicole, Flower Tucci, Nicole Sheridan, Marie Luv, Caroline Pierce, Lia Baren, Jewel Marceau, Emmanuelle Delcour, Chris Charming, Christian XXX, Voodoo, Erik Everhard, Mr. Pete and Rocco Siffredi in the Evil Angel movie (2006). This epic orgy won “Best Group Sex Scene” at the 2007 AVN Awards and “Best Orgy Scene” at the 2007 Adam Film World Guide Awards.

During this time Sasha Grey began to star in many critically acclaimed Evil Angel movies. We recommend watching Sasha’s raunchy three-way with Sandra Romain and Manuel Ferrara in (2006) that won “Best Three-Way Sex Scene” at the 2007 AVN Awards, her saucy scene with Dana DeArmond in (2007), her kinky femdom pegging session with Aiden Starr and Christian XXX in (2007), her sizzling anal scene with Erik Everhard in 2009) which won “Best Anal Sex Scene” at the 2010 AVN Awards and her titillating three-way with Belladonna and Brianna Love in (2008). Sasha Grey enjoyed collaborating with Belladonna and she explained in how;

“She loves what she does, and that can be hard to come across in the adult business; she really is a porn star not a porn chick. She was a great counsellor for me in the beginning of my career and I will always thank her for that, she has a lot to offer to new girls in the business”.

In addition to her best-selling Evil Angel DVDs, Sasha Grey was featured in several award-winning Digital Playground movies. You’ll love viewing Sasha Grey’s saucy oral shoot with Charles Dera, Jay Lassiter, Jerry and Sascha in (2007) that won “Best Oral Sex Scene: Video” at the 2008 AVN Awards, her thrilling three-way with Jerry and Marco Banderas in (2007), her raunchy medical roleplay with Mr. Pete and Tony T in (2009) which was nominated for “Best Feature” at the RogReviews’ Critics Choice Awards and her titillating three-way with Raven Alexis and Manuel Ferrara in (2010) that was nominated for “Best Three-Way Sex Scene” and “Best Comedy” at the 2011 AVN Awards.

Without a doubt, Sasha Grey’s most popular Digital Playground movie has been (2008) within which Sasha shared a thrilling three-way with Belladonna and Evan Stone that was nominated for “Best Three-Way Sex Scene” at the 2009 AVN Awards. Directed by Joone and featuring Jesse Jane, Stoya, Shay Jordan, Katsuni, Jenna Haze, Shawna Lenee, Riley Steele, Rhylee Richards, Gabriella Fox, Abbey Brooks, Shyla Stylez, Brianna Love and Veronica Rayne, Pirates II: Stagnetti’s Revenge is widely regarded as one of the greatest adult films of all time. As a matter of fact, this star-studded swashbuckling flick won “Feature Movie of the Year” at the 2009 XBIZ Awards, “Best Epic” at the 2009 XRCO Awards, “Best Feature” at the 2009 AVN Awards and it was named “Top Renting Title of the Year” and “Top Selling Title of the Year” at the 2010 AVN Awards. Pirates II: Stagnetti’s Revenge also received rave reviews from many prominent porn critics such as who enthusiastically stated in his October 2008 film review that;

“Well one word comes to mind when describing this one, EPIC. It was a sprawling piece of cinematic entertainment with a nice dose of sex mixed in. Now you want more of the nasty, then slip in the second disc where you get extended cuts for all the sex scenes plus you have a bonus scene with Bella who is a bad girl at this time bringing Stoya as a present to Katsuni so yeah enjoy that bit of lesbian action! The other two discs are chalk full of BTS, Interviews, set construction, the works. If you’ve seen the Lord of the Rings extended editions then that’s pretty much what you get here. Pirates II is a triumph all around, there is much humor here too mostly from Evan Stone who is indeed a leading man even if he’s a bumbling fool…An instant classic and a must have for owners of the first one. Well done to Joone and everyone who put so many hours and sweat into making this movie, it will pay off most handsomely now I think”.

Alongside these fantastic feature movies, Sasha Grey has attracted an avid global fan following due to her epic oral sex scenes. Fans of Sasha Grey should check out her raunchy oral shoot with Brad Baldwin, Lefty Larue, Arnold Schwartzenpecker and Tone Capone in the Shane’s World release (2006) that was nominated for “Best Oral Sex Scene: Video” at the 2007 AVN Awards, her saucy oral group scene in the Jules Jordan Video DVD (2007) which was nominated for “Best Oral Sex Scene: Video” at the 2008 AVN Awards, her sizzling oral three-way with Maya Hills and Sascha in the Zero Tolerance release (2007) that was nominated for “Best Oral Sex Scene: Video” at the 2008 AVN Awards and her scintillating oral group shoot in the Digital Playground/Handheld Pictures movie (2008) which was nominated for “Best Oral Sex Scene” at the 2009 AVN Awards. When Sasha Grey was asked to name her best adult films during , she highlighted how;

“That’s really hard to answer, because everyone likes something different. Some people may enjoy the hardcore scenes I’ve done, and others will enjoy the softer, romantic scenes I’ve done. It’s safe to say, that if you like a certain company, I’d look for scenes I’ve done for them!”.

Sasha Grey : Popular Porn Productions

A landmark moment in Sasha Grey’s adult film career occurred in 2008 when she starred in the Vivid movie (2008). Sasha won “Best Oral Sex Scene” at the 2010 AVN Awards she also received a “Best Couples Sex Scene” nomination due to her steamy scene with Evan Stone. Sasha Grey’s stellar performance in Throated: A Cautionary Tale also earned her many nominations for “Best Actress” at the 2010 AVN Awards, “Acting Performance of the Year: Female” at the 2010 XBIZ Awards and “Single Performance – Actress” at the 2010 XRCO Awards. What’s more, Throated: A Cautionary Tale was highly recommended by who stated in his April 2009 film review that;

“Throat: A Cautionary Tale is a movie that will pull you in from the start and not let you go. The murder/mystery gets your attention immediately, but when a live Sasha Grey enters the scene, you are fully committed to her and the movie. You want to know why she had to die and who killed her. Ms. Grey’s portrayal of the loveable Julie Garrett will earn her numerous awards from the AVNs to the XRCOs. She was able to bring heart and soul to a fascinating role. Julie Garrett is totally a tragic figure. Meanwhile, Penny Flame‘s portrayal of the multi-troubled detective could rival the lead character…The script and Paul Thomas deserve award recognition as well. The pace of the action is super and the viewer is always wanting to know what is going to happen next. It has been a long time since an adult feature came out where the storyline was more important than the sex scenes. The ending is a total surprise. I highly recommend this movie. It’s one of the best movies of the year”.

Another must-see movie for Sasha Grey fans is her Evil Angel star showcase (2010). Directed by Belladonna, Fuck Sasha Grey featured Sasha Grey in five fantastic scenes including a sizzling shoot with Tony T that was nominated for “Most Outrageous Sex Scene” at the 2011 AVN Awards, a raunchy DP scene with Rico Strong and Brian Pumper which was nominated for “Best Double Penetration Sex Scene” at the 2011 AVN Awards and a titillating scene with Claire Adams that was nominated for “Most Outrageous Sex Scene” at the 2011 AVN Awards. Moreover, Fuck Sasha Grey was nominated for “Best All-Sex Release” at the 2011 AVN Awards and it was ardently endorsed by who advocated in his May 2010 film review how;

“Sasha’s considerable and ever expanding fanbase will dig this one, especially if they want to see her get rough and dirty. Belladonna keeps the action coming quickly and Sasha definitely gives her all here. The extras are a bit on the light side but there’s something to be said for having almost three hours of all new footage of her in action and at her most depraved. Highly recommended”.

During this time Sasha Grey also starred in Lew Xypher’s Vivid/Miss Lucifer Productions movie (2010) and she received a “Acting Performance of the Year: Female” nomination at the 2011 XBIZ Awards. In Malice In Lalaland, Sasha Grey shared a thrilling three-way with Alyssa Reece and Kristina Rose that was nominated for “Best All-Girl Three-Way Sex Scene” at the 2011 AVN Awards and she shot a steamy scene with Keni Styles which was nominated for “Best Couples Sex Scene” at the 2011 AVN Awards. Malice In Lalaland even received a rave review from who highlighted in his March 2011 film review how;

“This was an amazing movie and I would easily give this a XCRITIC PICK and words cannot describe how it took me this long to check this out…This movie needs to be in your collection, it’s a great take on the Alice in Wonderland story with a little mix of Fear and Loathing mixed in, with some amazing sex and even more amazing music, most of which is from Aguardente, who is going to be added to my music collection as soon as I am done with this review. I also love the fact that it is shot in 35mm and you get a few pops and cracks that remind you of watching a movie on the big screen. And of course, for a movie to get that high of a rating from me, there needs to be a good amount of special features, and with an hour of footage and the book that comes with the movie, with some great photos, story boards and some more BTS of the making and filming of this movie, way above and beyond what you normally get from porn movies. And I can’t end this review without mentioning the very sexy ladies that are included in this film, Sasha, Andy, Kagney, Juelz, Sadie and Phoenix, you ladies were amazing and I will be watching your scenes, over and over and over again”.

Keen to catch up on even more of Sasha Grey’s most popular porn productions? Then you’ll love viewing Sasha’s sizzling scene with Mark Davis in Dave Navarro’s Vivid/Teravision movie (2007), her saucy scenes in her Teravision DVD (2008) and her steamy scenes with Randy Spears and Ryder Skye in the Wicked Pictures feature release (2008) that earned Sasha a “Best Actress” nomination at the 2009 AVN Awards. Not to be missed!

Alongside her impressive performances, Sasha Grey has produced and directed several must-see movies for her own production company Greyart. We recommend viewing Sasha Grey’s sizzling scenes with Alyssa Reece, Jana Jordan and Chris Johnson in Birthday Party (2009) which she co-directed with Oren Cohen, her saucy scenes with Nikki Rhodes and Evie Delatosso in The Perversion (2009) and her scintillating scenes with Samantha Ryan and Louisa Lanewood in The Seduction (2009) that Sasha Grey also co-directed with Oren Cohen. Throughout her career, Sasha Grey has always been keen to dispel the assumptions that society in general have about porn actresses. As Sasha Grey divulged during ;

“[People assume] That you were an abused child, you’re on drugs, you have a pimp, you’re an idiot, and all you can say is, ‘Cock, cock, cock’. I think more and more, you’re seeing women that actually want to be here. There are plenty of us that are just as perverted as the next guy, and who enjoy doing this”.

Sasha Grey discussed these points in greater detail during , elaborating upon how;

“I always say people need to stop blaming porn for their teenagers’ problems; they need to talk to their teenagers about porn. It’s really simple…But it’s not easy for people to do. I think actually in some ways it will get harder just because of the way we’re using technology. I meet some people who don’t even know how to have a conversation. They’ve just become roboticized”.

Sasha Grey discussed her reasons for leaving the adult industry during a 2009 interview, explaining how;

“I don’t want to segregate it from art because, for me, it is art. I think a lot of people don’t look at it that way but I do. So right now I want to have my hands in everything”.

Upon retiring from the adult industry, Sasha Grey pursued a career as a mainstream actress and she has appeared in many prominent music videos, TV series, video games and feature movies. “This is just another extension of who I am, an extension of my creativity. And I would love to get the opportunity to do this again, because it’s fulfilling for me. And challenging….[On working with Steven Soderbergh] Our communication was really good. If I had some ideas or questions, I felt comfortable enough to ask him. We could riff off of each other and figure out what worked and didn’t work”.

During this time Sasha Grey appeared as ‘April Carson’ in the Canadian black comedy horror film Smash Cut (2009) and in 2010 she appeared as a fictionalized version of herself in six episodes of the smash hit HBO TV series Entourage (Season 7 Episodes 5 to 10). Sasha Grey : Literary Works, DJ & Music Career

In addition to her mainstream acting career, Sasha Grey is a talented artist, writer and photographer who produced her own Neü Sex photographic book in March 2011. Neü Sex consisted of various candid snapshots and selfies taken by Sasha at pivotal periods of her life and many of these photographs were accompanied by short essays. As Sasha Grey explained in a March 2011 interview;

“There are so many photos of me, taken by other people, that aesthetically I have no control over. Documenting myself allows me to reflect on the day, on the feelings I am having at that second”.

Sasha Grey has always been a creative individual who loves writing. In fact, Sasha Grey started writing poetry when she was 10/11 years old and she mentioned in that;

“I’ve been writing since I was 10 or 11. I started with poetry because that was the easiest thing. It just kind of came naturally. I think at that time West Coast hip hop was huge; all these kids around me were like ‘I want to be a rapper’. But I’m a white girl, not going to be a rapper”.

Sasha Grey published her very first novel in 2013. This erotic novel follows a young woman named Catherine and the adventures that ensue after she is introduced to a sex club. Sasha Grey has since published The Juliette Society Book II: The Janus Chamber in October 2016 which saw Catherine investigate the death of a beloved model. Sasha Grey completed her Juliette Society trilogy in March 2018 with the release of The Juliette Society Book III: The Mismade Girl that enabled fans to see what happened next following the death of this beloved model and how Catherine strives to expose the truth about what happened to her. Talking about The Juliette Trilogy in , Sasha Grey conveyed how;

“A lot of those [Fifty Shades Of Grey] novels exist in a hyper-fantasy world, much like romantic comedies. But I wanted to create something where people really felt like this was something that could happen to them. My character isn’t out there looking for Mr. Right”.

Sasha Grey has always been passionate about literature and in November 2011 she read books to first and third grade school children at Emerson Elementary School in Compton, California, as part of the Read Across America national elementary school reading program. Unfortunately, Sasha Grey faced pressure from some parents who objected to Sasha’s participation in Read Across America due to her past career in the adult industry. Sasha Grey was not deterred by these complaints and she stated in that;

“I am proud to have participated in the ‘Read Across America’ program at Emerson Elementary School in Compton, CA. I read ‘Dog Breath’ by Dav Pilkey to the sweetest 1st and 3rd grade children. ‘Read Across America’ is a program that was designed to promote literacy and instil a lifelong love of reading in elementary school students. Promoting education is an effort that is close to my heart. Illiteracy contributes to poverty; encouraging children to pick up a book is fundamental. I believe education is a universal right. I committed to this program with the understanding that people would have their own opinions about what I have done, who I am and what I represent. I am an actor. I am an artist. I am a daughter. I am a sister. I am a partner. I have a past that some people may not agree with, but it does not define who I am. I will not live in fear of it. To challenge non-profit education programs is an exercise in futility, counter-productive and anti-educational. I cannot thank my fans and ‘Read Across America’ enough for supporting my decision. Your support and kind words continue to inspire me. I believe in the future of our children, and I will remain an active supporter and participant in education-focused initiatives”.

Nowadays, Sasha Grey regularly tours across the globe as a DJ and she has been creating her own music since 2008. In fact, Sasha Grey was the co-founder of aTelecine (an industrial noise band) and she produced her first dance track with Jayceeoh in 2014 called Heat Of The Night. Sasha Grey also recorded her own full length album in 2016 called Transmission in collaboration with the English electronic music group Death In Vegas. Sasha Grey discussed her DJ and music career during , highlighting how;

“I love music and thankfully come from a family where everyone enjoyed different genres, so I was never subjected to just one sound. I guess my first real exposure to electronic music was industrial electronic and experimental music as a teenager. I also collect records and have always, for fun, had some exposure to mixing. But it wasn’t until a few years ago when agents started reading my blogs and listening to aTelecine that I got offered to DJ. At that point I was barely 21 and hadn’t really stepped foot into many clubs and made the mistake of playing no-wave, and factory records 80’s era of dance music. I’ve learned a lot since then!…They’re two totally different genres [making music in a band and DJing], but both are electronic-based. It was interesting to realize how many people share a mutual love for music, but not necessarily the band, which is why I was being booked in the first place. So I’ve tried to find a happy balance and medium, which has been a refreshing challenge”.

You’ll be happy to hear that Sasha Grey continues to pursue a broad spectrum of acting, writing, producing, directing, DJ and music projects. When Sasha Grey was asked about which of her various projects is most closely aligned to her identity during , she revealed that;

“It’s really difficult, because I feel like everything I do feeds into and has connections with everything else. Between friends and family, when you sit around thinking, Well, what else would I be doing in life if I wasn’t doing this?, it always circles back to some form of art or creative discipline. So it’s hard to say. I really enjoy writing, but depending on the project, sometimes you have to put it aside and go back to it later. Other times, I’m fortunate enough to focus on a project I’m working on, whether it’s a novel or screenplay, and get it out fast. I guess I prefer being able to do that…I always question myself. It’s that stairway to knowledge feeling, that you always think you could make something better. I feel that way about many things I do. I’ve been trying to not let that hinder me so much. Last year was a very difficult year for me, and if I learned one thing, it’s you can’t always be a perfectionist. Sometimes, you just have get something done, get it out there, and hope for the best. That’s a really positive way of looking at things, and I’m much more cynical naturally. I feel like it opens up the door to a bit more fluidity in life”.
